The most important offers at a glance

Welcome Centre - for a good start

Even before their first day, international employees receive support with their arrival. In cooperation with internal and external partners – such as embassies and public authorities – the Welcome Center provides guidance to make joining the University of Graz as smooth as possible.

Start Smart - for a personalised start.

Through the Start Smart programme, new employees at the University of Graz are accompanied by an experienced colleague during their first weeks. These job partners provide orientation, share knowledge, and are available to answer questions.

Targeted onboarding for researchers

Targeted onboarding - for your start in science.

UNISTART-Wiss supports PraeDocs as they embark on a career in science. The programme conveys basic content on employment law, didactics, publishing and project management in a compact form. Individual coaching is also offered.

The PostDoc programme programme is aimed at postdocs, project staff, (senior) lecturers and scientists with the aim of supporting their further professional development. The programme focuses on teaching, leadership, mentoring and career coaching. The programme is supported by the Research Career Center, which provides a framework for sustainable development.

Teaching at the University of Graz

Many questions often arise at the beginning of a teaching career at the University of Graz. Support is provided by teaching-related service centres, further training opportunities and didactic suggestions and resources.

Reconciling work and family life

The University of Graz supports parents and employees with caregiving responsibilities in balancing family commitments and professional duties. This is achieved through counselling services and the development of family-friendly measures for all staff members.

Career programme for female scientists

The career programme for female scientists supports women on their path in science through targeted support and networking. Female doctoral candidates and postdocs at the four universities in Graz are given the opportunity to gain qualifications, exchange ideas and plan their individual careers over the course of a year. The aim is to make women's academic careers visible, promote them structurally and anchor them in the long term.

Dual Career Service

We offer information and support to help you settle in quickly, so you can focus on the main purpose of your stay. To this end, we cooperate with various internal and external institutions, such as embassies and public authorities. Our aim is to further strengthen the welcoming culture at the University of Graz.

Continuous Development

Our tailored programmes prepare employees in the best possible way for current and future challenges and form the foundation of a positive and supportive working environment.
Key areas of individual development include work organisation, digital skills, personal growth and communication, research support and higher education didactics, as well as health and work–life balance.

Our benefits for you

Orientation framework and horizon of expectations

Activity Framework

The University of Graz Activity Framework provides orientation and sets expectations. It describes what defines everyday academic work and highlights different priorities depending on career stage and discipline.
Here you can find general information and the key focus areas of your faculty.

Support for development centres

The development agreement agreed with the Rectorate at the beginning of your research and teaching activities as well as your future management responsibilities can easily be lost in the face of new tasks and impressions. In addition to assistance with the preparation and submission by the Human Resources Department, the Human Resources and Organisational Development Department and the Centre for Teaching Competence will support you in achieving your goals, which in turn contributes to overall university quality assurance.
